Have you ever seen the movie Drive with Ryan Gosling? They definitely make good sleepers, but FWD is weak.

It's fine, but it's definitely not preferred. Push>Pull, in both straight line comfort and cornering. It would have TSC, no drifting here, boss.

Understeer is a lot more manageable and controllable than oversteer. More control can mean better handling. Plus, not all FWD cars are understeering pigs. My first car, a FWD, had the suspension tuned so that, when cornering, you could use understeer by hitting the gas around the corner to hold the line to the edge of the corner, or you could lift, get a bit of oversteer, tip the noce in, and clip the apex perfectly.
I hated FWD too, until I drove a good one.

IDK, I really liked our SS's suspension. Rode like a Cadillac of old.
Interior was crap though in a way only GM could do.
I like to think of that as the FWD Crown Vic. Not that FWD is bad, like I gave many damns about it. Maybe shove a set of nice coils and a LSD up front and you'd have what could honestly be a competent driving car for when you want to shut up the kids at the red light or just really need to get to that AARP meeting in time.

I've driven plenty of FWD cars to understand the difference, before my MR2 I drove a GLI (LSD equipped, 2.0T, 6SPD MT, etc etc). Average consumer won't even turn off TSC, so oversteer is really a non-issue, especially if the car is tuned conservatively, like a sedan would be. Handling characteristics are more comfortable and better for putting power to the ground.

I agree.
these "vanilla, jelly beans" have some serious grunt.
personally, i'd put GTi buckets in the front, put brembos on all four corners, and then just do some really stiff anti roll bars, so it's ride height remains the same sleeper height as it normally is. I'd also find some really sticky rubber for it!

All I see in those cars is a compromise. Cramped engine bays, no chance to pull off something fun like a 180, and i4s make for a car with little potential, and no style (except the corrado, my one indulgence).

I don't know how to respond to you. For one I don't know what the "CTR" is. For two, are you saying it takes less skill to drive a RWD car?

First off, CTR stands for Civic Type-R. Second off, for the average driver, a RWD car takes less at 8/10s than a FWD. At 9/10ths-plus the RWD becomes a more dangerous animal, I agree. But for average shenanigans it's much easier to coax about.

If you can't do a 180 just because its FWD, you're not trying hard enough.
And I just can't bring myself to buy a V8 just for the sake of it. There's just so much potential in modern smaller engines. And the idea of an ultimate lightweight DD that can do everything better than most sports cars just do one thing is just too much to turn down. To me, a modern hot hatch or other FWD performance 4 is just having my cake and eating it too.

I absolutely love these things. A black 2012 (because 3.6 6spd) will in fact be my next car if I can find one cheap enough. Then add some performance pieces from various W-Bodies throughout the years and maybe some bucket seats from a Camaro or something and well, well we might have something

That was exactly my thinking. A good set of sway bars would fix a lot of the roll. And because it's becoming pretty ubiquitous, the 3.6 should be pretty easy to make go.

But the 6-speed makes up for a lot of that lack while returning much better mileage.
